Why grinders for coffee is important for good coffee?

Are you looking forward to brewing some mean coffee? Then, take a moment to read this article.

To say that coffee grinders is important in the coffee process is an understatement. You start from the sorting/grading, then the roasting, followed by the grinding and lastly the brewing, thus grinding remains and always would be a critical part of coffee brewing.

Grind is absolutely critical to a great cuppa. This is because different coffee requires different grind size. Take for example espresso and you would need fine grind, whereas French press would need coarse grind.

The rule of time is a shorter brewing time would require a finer grind, i.e. when making an espresso. So, conversely, the longer brewing time would require a coarser grind, i.e. when using a French press.

The above touches on the fine points of what coffee you need and how you can better your coffee by understanding coffee grinders. But, more importantly is the flavor and aroma that coffee would lose if it is not freshly grind.

Do you know that when you open the pack or can or ground coffee, the freshness begins to lose aroma and freshness? This is due to oxidation which causes the aromatic coffee oils to break down. So, grinding before the brew is the only way to ensure the best brew.

I guess knowing that oxidation causing the coffee to lose aroma is a bad news but do you know that many people use it to their advantage? Oh, and this has nothing to do with coffee grinders.

Till now, we know that coffee grinders is important, but which one should we be getting? There are actually 2 main types of coffee grinders, the burr and the blade. The choice is simple you should get the burr.

Here is why. It produces a more even and uniform grind, 2 critical element that would give you better coffee. And burr grinding generate lesser heat compared to blade grinder, this would preserved more of the coffee flavor. The last pointer, I thought it is very important, it is easier to clean.

If you have did some research, you would know that blade coffee grinders are lower in cost and burr is about at least 40% higher priced. However, there is a reason why all commercial espresso machines uses burr grinder, and if you would want to have coffee house quality coffee, then you should know what to do.
