Consider Gift Baskets This Spooky Halloween For The Kids

If you are considering something different for the holidays of fall then you may want to consider Halloween Baskets this year. These festive arrangements can be bought already assembled or you can make your own. This unique craft will be a hit with kids of all ages.

Many people immediately think that a Halloween gift basket would be a huge arrangement. This kind of item is commonly used for presents and special occasions. However, Halloween gift baskets can come in all sorts of sizes. You can make tiny ones for visiting neighborhood children or you can make that big display for a special family.

One family I have become very close to over the years does not celebrate the Halloween holiday. Instead, the family spends time playing games or they may go out to a movie instead. As the children became more and more aware of the festivities that they were missing I decided to make them Halloween gift baskets.

This project had to be approached very carefully because of the parents’ opposition to many of the themes of the Halloween holiday. Instead of constructing Halloween gift baskets in black and orange I decided to use red and white. I chose these colors for a specific theme.

Instead of making formal Halloween gift baskets, I made night out at the movies baskets. The items I chose included popcorn balls arranged in movie theatre popcorn holders. I added some of their favorite sodas as well as other movie theater treats. Under all of the treats were nice, comfortable fall pajamas for each of the girls.

The girls were thrilled with the night out at the movies theme and they seemed to forget all about missing dress up for the holiday when they found their pajamas. I also made sure to include a fun movie in the Halloween gift baskets as well.

Not everyone celebrates every holiday. I have made many Halloween gift baskets over the years of all shapes and sizes. The night at the movies baskets were just as fun to make and I had a great opportunity to share a little bit of holiday spirit without celebrating the actual holiday.

The other kids in the neighborhood did receive traditional Halloween gift baskets filled with spooky treats and they were thrilled. I was just glad that I could do something a little extra special for my special family as well.

Teen Issues Are Parent Issues Too: Don’t Ignore Them!

Becoming a teen in America today ushers in one of the most difficult periods of their lives. Many parents are so used to hearing about how difficult teens can be during their passage to adulthood, they simply try to muddle through with their kids, assuming there’s no merit to these teen issues. It’s simply a waiting game, ending magically at approximately the age of 21, when the kids somehow acquire common sense and the parents once again have their lovely children back in the fold. If you’re a parent with this perspective, read on to see how important your input is during the adolescent period of development.

Teen issues are parent issues too: don’t ignore them!
If you recall your own teen years, you know that hormonal changes are happening fast and furiously. Some teens suffer from wider mood swings than others. Girls begin their menstrual periods, throwing their entire metabolism in a tizzy. Boys begin to exhibit more aggressive behaviors, trying on the macho. This phenomenon exerts perhaps the greatest influence on what are often dismissively referred to as ‘teen issues’.

The radical changes which occur during this time are often the harbinger of rebellion, against parents and other authority figures. This is natural and every generation has exhibited the infamous rebellious behaviors. All of a sudden, parents don’t know anything. A little knowledge is, indeed, a dangerous thing. The degree and expression of rebellion is undeniably a teen issue that shouldn’t be ignored. Granted, it’s difficult for parents to assess when to say no and when they should let things be.

Rules on dating and curfews are one of the worst to try to enforce. Your teen can read off a litany of reasons as to why they should be allowed this or that bending of the rules. However, here is where your teen is actually most flexible, because they do realize, if only subconsciously, that their passionate desires do need to be curbed. While parents take the most flack on this one, carefully consider just how flexible you should be. More on Teen Issues.

Raising Teenagers: How Your Parenting Changes

Teenagers have been the butt of hundreds of sitcom jokes. New parents or those with young children are warned about those dreaded “teenage years” when rebellion sets in and trouble begins. Parents tell horror stories about sneaking out, disrespect and even tales of alcohol or drug abuse. It is enough to make any would-be parent run for the hills. But the bottom line is that parenting teenagers is a whole different story than being the parent of a small child.

Okay, so maybe it is not as bad as all that. Being the parent of a teenager is a lot different than having an elementary aged child, toddler or an infant. There are a different set of problems that are very age specific that each parent must eventually face. There is no avoiding it; countless parents have wished it could be so. Parenting teenagers and small children all have one basic commonality. Both require a set of rules and limitations. Some parents have a much more relaxed system than others do. The parenting teenagers must differ on is the actual nature of the rules.

One example of a big difference is that children will not be dealing with issues such as dating and curfews. Laws in most cities have a weekday curfew and a weekend curfew for people beneath the age of eighteen. This is to provide a structure to protect children. It is these guidelines that parents seek to undertake as well. Parenting classes and magazines advise that most teens seek rules even if they do not outwardly show it. Giving them a strict curfew and letting them know what is okay and what is wrong is a way to guide them in choices they must make.

Any parent of a teen can attest that expressing physical affection is a hit and miss situation. Teens want their own autonomy and are easily embarrassed in front of their friends if a parent wants to hug or kiss them. It is nothing personal. It is just a phase and it will pass. The important thing is to let them know that they are loved regardless of their actions.

Parenting help exists for those couples or guardians who are having difficulty parenting teenagers. Many schools offer counseling or can recommend a psychologist if there is problems or emotional difficulties. No teenager is beyond help and this is a fact that all experts agree on.

Parenting teenagers is a fine line between leniency and strictness. Teens should be raised to be respectful and know what the rules are. They are also entitled to a loving atmosphere where they can find support and care. It is not about pampering or caving into their demands. After all, they are not adults and do not have the experience to guide them in their decision making skills. That is what a parent is for.

Fire And How To Keep Children Away From It

Fire is the greatest source of energy and the most used element in this world. With fire we can make a lot of things like light, energy, heat, food and combustion. Thus fire became an everyday use at home specially when cooking and putting light during the night. Although we can make a lot of things out of it, it can also destroy so many things, highly destructive in its very nature, and has the potential to kill and harm through burning.

During a chemical reaction a fire creates light that becomes so attractive in our eyes even from a great distance. Out of curiosity we always draw into the light like moths trying to get close to the lamp. Like teenagers they do things out of curiosity just to try how they taste and feel without even thinking the dangers and harmful effects of it.

Most kids under the age of five are curious about fire. Often what begins as a natural exploration however can lead to tragedy.
Fire is fast. In less then 30 seconds a small flame can get completely out of control and turn into a major fire. Unfortunately most kids don’t think about what could happen. I remember myself playing a magnifying lens and a box of matches when suddenly the box burst into flames and caught my hands on fire fortunately I just got minor burns, blisters and worst bruised ass because my grandma slapped my butt endlessly for using his Folding Reading Glasses as an experiment.
In some cases, children set fires out of more than curiosity. This group of children are often classified as ”Pyromaniacs”, children like these has an impulse to deliberately start fires to relieve tension and typically includes gratification or relief afterward.
For safety and precaution you should keep away objects that drives them to do such things such as matches, lighters and High Power Reading Glasses with thick lenses as they may mistakenly use it as another Magnifying Glasses experiment.

Learning Games For Kids: Stimulate Their Development

If you have a child that is in the toddler stage and have done any toy shopping, then you probably are aware that there is a huge variety of toddler toys to choose from. Often, it seems that with every new month that goes by there are several new cool games and toys that are targeted to toddlers and helping them develop motor skills and learn coordination. There are so many educational games and toys these days that sometimes it makes it even more difficult to decide which ones you should buy for your youngster.

Many parents are almost obsessed about buying the right learning toys for their toddlers, or they want to buy the latest “toy of the year” that has earned some kind of award for top developmental or educational toy. But, in many cases, the learning games for kids that win all of these “prestigious awards” don’t hold the interest of the child. No matter how many experts were involved in creating the educational toys, if they cannot capture the imagination of the child and keep them enthralled with the interaction with the toy or game, then it will end up being quite useless and a waste of money.

Most of the time you will find that the award winning toys and games are more expensive than the average, everyday learning toys for your toddler. Parents have often been frustrated after spending a lot of money on such touted games and then watched in dismay as their child quickly lost interest and went back to playing with a simple set of blocks. In such cases, the clear conclusion is that sometimes the best toddler toys are the ones they will use and enjoy the most.

This means that some of the most popular toys for toddlers have already been proven safe for the child to play with and effective in terms of being fun enough to keep them entertained and engaged. In general, these time-proven toys for children are far less expensive than the newest and latest award winning toys and you won’t have to stand in line or fight over the hottest toy of the day.

What are some of these favorite, classic toys for kids? You probably will recognize many of these educational toys and games from your own childhood and they include things such as the classic stacking rings, wooden trucks and cars, colorful building blocks, shape sorters, bright and bouncy balls, water toys, coloring books, puzzles with big pieces and large, cheerful pictures, and simple, basic and fun traditional toys that provide hours and hours of amusement, pleasure and development at the same time.

Toddlers simply love to play and interact with items that do something in response to their actions. Busy boxes are simple but a wonderful form of interactive educational games that let children get the feel for pushing, pulling and rotating various sizes and shapes of knobs, levers and buttons. And, if you can handle the noise, one of the all-time favorite toys for children is the popper toy that they can drag behind then or push in front of them, sometimes for hours on end.

When shopping for toddler toys, try to get the type that can be utilized in more than one way and that will last for several years of childhood, and can even be passed along to younger siblings. Also, the learning toys that encourage them to play with other children will help all of them develop their social and sharing skills as they play.

MRSA Staph in Schools - Are You Informed?

MRSA staph appeared to be epidemic in many school systems in the fall of 2007. Seemingly out of nowhere, schools all over the country were sending notices to parents about outbreaks, attempting to quiet fears and concerns over this potentially life threatening staph that few had heard of before.

Was MRSA staph infection epidemic, or did widespread reporting for the first time just make it appear so? While we will never know for sure, it is likely that the latter was the case. Either way, that doesn’t mean we should let down our guard. MRSA staph is still a very real issue, especially in our schools.

Packing large numbers of children with developing immune systems into the ideal breeding ground that schools provide for Community Acquired MRSA is a recipe for disaster. Other than teaching kids good hygiene habits and extra cleanings, school adminstrators don’t have much of an answer. With even more problematic diseases like C. diff on the horizon, more answers are needed.

If you have children in school, be sure and make them aware of MRSA and the implications it has for their health and well being. Take steps to make sure they are getting proper nutrition and rest as well as frequently washing their hands. Learn as much as you can as there is no substitute for preparation.
