Looking For A Woman Dj In The UK
Hi there, well for all of you that don’t know me let me introduce myself; I am DJ Keisha. London’s international chilled tunes female DJ, that loves to get the party rocking. Over the coming weeks I will be writing about myself, the experiences I have had and the places I have played.
I have been DJing for the last six years and have been fortunate enough to play at some of London’s finest clubs. Mind you it has not been an easy ride and I have had to work hard to get to where I am now. My love for the music and pleasing the crowd has kept me here and I only want to progress forward.
The first gigs I played were at house parties and believe you me I wasn’t very good but getting out there is very important.
I was really nervous and could hardly touch the needles because my hands were shaking so much. It was all trial and error and the willingness to succeed in this business is the key. The only way to progress further is to play live to a crowd and on different sound systems. When I first started working I was playing at my local ski slope bar, I was already working there as a trainee ski instructor. I had only dreamed about becoming a female DJ
I did have to play a lot of commercial stuff although I was getting paid and getting experience. From there I also worked at a bar in Goswell Road (North London) although I was still only starting out. I was still very nervous and felt like all the other DJs were watching over me. Sometimes I would feel a little intimidated by them but tried to forget they were there mostly.
I would say it’s a lot harder being a female DJ and you do get guys that don’t like you being up there. Men dominate the DJ scene but us girls can play just as well as them and it has been proved. The likes of Sonique, Smokin Jo, Lisa Lashes and DJ Lottie are living proof that us ladies can do it!
If you are starting out as a DJ, especially if you’re female please send your e-mails to Keisha@ukevents.net .
