Child Autism: A Couple of Things You Have To Know

Child autism is one type of developmental disorder. Due to lack of data, no one still knows exactly what stimulates the development of this condition. Thus, there is still no cure to it. And to make the problem more complicated, it would be good to add that children with autism cant be categorized into simpler types since many of them display symptoms that can be different in intensity from another. Nonetheless, there are still many signs that may help you conclude that your child has autistic representations.

Is it possible that if a child has autism, she also has mental retardation?

If we are talking about possibilities, yes it truly is possible that these two conditions coexist. The worse is that they may coexist with other conditions that are quite similar in nature with autism and mental retardation.

The problem though is that children with autism cant be duly evaluated since they don’t have the capacity to respond to questions and tests like normal children may do.

A child with autism can also display special skills that are normally absent from normal children. These include extra talents like being able to compute extremely complex mathematical problems in their head or being able to maximize their use of memory. However, cases like these are very rare.

Child Autism: A Couple of Things You Have To Know

How would you then know if your child has autism?

This is very complex since autism may develop through regression. Meaning, even of your child was born healthy and normal up to his second or third year, it is still likely that he will become autistic after the onset of the third year or so. This is characterized by the loss of normal activities and abilities they can perform before. The cause of this is yet to be identified.

While human develops gradually, there are still no indications that autism can be outgrown. Many things may be developed in the child but they would not affect the presence of problem in their brains. Autism is a life-long condition and there are no cures for it. Treatments may help but they still wont be able to erase everything that’s wrong within the child’s brain.
