Wood Toys Have Long Distinguished History
People have prized wooden toys since humanity’s beginnings. Not only is wood prized for its ease in carving, but it is also a long-lasting material. But what has made wooden toys so valuable is something else: it’s a natural anti-bacterial product. As every parent knows, babies chew on all their toys, so wood has always been the safest kind of material for kids.
People from around the world have also always appreciated wooden toys for its natural appeal: the creamy colors, sensuous feel, and light scent of the forests. With this illustrious history, it’s not shocking to discover that wooden toys are still very popular with both children and parents. Historically-speaking, most toys were made from wood. Only the modern era do other kinds of toys surpass the popularity of wooden toys.
Due to the availability of cheap petroleum as well as the decline of harvestable wood, plastic toys have flooded the market. But are parents happy with this? Parents and community leaders are leading a backlash against cheap plastic toys because of a host of economic and environmental problems, and advocating for safe and natural children’s wooden toys instead. While it is true that wooden toys are more costly at the check-out line, they are also much more likely to remain useful for years on end.
