How Cats Use Their Whiskers
People have adored cats for many years. This comes as no surprise because cats are interesting animals. Not only are cats interesting because of their behavior but they are interesting in the way they are made. Cat whiskers, themselves, are mind boggling. The top and bottom rows of cats’ whiskers move separately, helping them to use them as wind detectors and as aids in locating the source of odors. Believe it or not, cats can actually sense when storms or earthquakes are going to happen.
Cat’s whiskers work like antennae; they help your kitty feel what she cannot see. Although cats see better than humans in the dark, it is a myth that cats have superior night vision. Their whiskers are their nighttime guides.
When a cat catches prey, such as a mouse, it will use its whiskers to determine if the mouse will take off if it is set down
A cat’s hair is obviously not as thick as their whiskers. Cats do lose their whiskers. The good news is they grow back.
Aren’t cat whiskers fascinating? Well there is more. They can communicate with their whiskers.
Here are some tips on reading your cat’s whisker position:
1. Sagging Whiskers- Kitty is not feeling well, not happy or just plain bored. If you see drooping whiskers on your cat on a regular basis, consider some new cat toys to spice things up.
2. If your cat’s whiskers are twitching they are seeking out food or sensing another animal.
3. When your cat spreads their whiskers apart they are content and happy. The farther they spread them the more content your kitty is.
4. Whiskers Pulled Back Tight Along The Face- Kitty is either unhappy or feeling aggressive. If you have a cat that is feisty and aggressive constantly, you may need to play with them more. A wand teaser cat toy will let your cat get out their energy in a safe and fun way.
5. When your cat flattens and bunches up their whiskers against their face they are feeling reserved or they are afraid.
If your cat is giving signs that she is feeling feisty you can find great pet supplies online. Many online pet supply stores offer inexpensive or free shipping. Your cat and wallet will really appreciate it! Buying also makes it easier to compare prices from one store to another. Make sure when looking at prices that you know whether or not you are paying for shipping. One big thing to remember is to always check for coupons for the online shop you are purchasing from. It is easy to do just type the store name and coupons into any search engine.
