Coffee During Drive-Through
Premiere in Berlin: On April 2nd, 2009 the first coffee drive-thru was established in the capital of Germany.
It is called “Cahoona”, which is Hawaiian word and characterizes someone who really excels at something. This visual image, which connects the logo and the whole shop design with a Hawaiian breath, was developed in the mind of Cahoona-founders Kathrin and Gunter Wakulat.
The coffee itself is imported directly from Hawaii, more precisely from the volcano, Mauna Kea.
This name represents the Hawaiian lifestyle which is generally being friendly to other people and enjoying the moment.
Whoever wants to have a coffee on the way to work no longer has to search for a parking area as you will be served directly in the car. No queuing or lining up, no stress!
The location is great as well. About 42000 cars daily drive through at walking pace from Potsdam Place to Alexanderplatz - there is a coffee just in the nick of time.
It takes you only a minute to order your favourite drink by driving past and then you move forward another 10 meters in the drive-through.
In “Cahoona” you can find whatever you want: the traditional white coffee, latte macchiato as well as some sandwiches to eat. There are two service counters where at most 6 cars are able to drive up. The aim is to attend on the guests within 60 seconds.
Although Berlin already has around 800 coffee shops, this one ought to catch people’s attention with its originality. The idea of the design was thought up during holidays in America: a brown timber house which somehow reminds you of the American western style and had been built in October 2007.
The whole concept of course is evocative of McDonald’s, who put the idea into practice so that their customers could get something without having to make any effort.
The main idea of the coffee drive-thru inspired the master of business administration Gunter Wakulat together with his wife. The Federal Agency for Real Estate rent the property of 300m2 which is located right next to the parking area of the Ministry of Finance. It couldn’t get any better…
If you are planning to spend your time in some Unterkunft Berlin in the next few months and maybe are en-route from your Ferienwohnung in Berlin to Alexanderplatz, you should a take 60 seconds break and have a genuine Hawaiian coffee to take away.
