Hidden Sights Of Rome
Rome is fast becoming one of the most cultured European cities. After trailing behind the likes of Paris, London and Barcelona for years, Rome is getting set to overtake. With much more to offer than monuments, bars and restaurants (even thought they are undeniably amongst the best in Europe), this is one destination you do not want to overlook. There’s an amazing choice of hotels in Rome and apartment in Rome available, so there’s no excuse not to miss it either.
With multiculturalism on the cards for Rome’s future, where better to start than with the Festival of Contemporary African Culture? Celebrating the African theatre, music and art scene and concentrating on Algiers, the Capital of Arab Culture 07, the festival spreads across the city in many different venues including the impressive Teatro Palladium. This festival is promised to be one of the events of the autumn and is sure to bring new dimensions to the city. The musical line up is exciting with main performances coming from Senegalese artiste, Julia Sarr and the flamenco guitarist, Patrice La Rose. Don’t miss this September event.
Soon, the city will be competing with the likes of Brooklyn, Manhattan, London and Paris in the World of Hip Hop; September in Rome sees the arrival of the National Hip Hop parade. This festival will be showcasing in various parts of the city and will be demonstrating the best in Italian hip hop and street culture. The three main artists of the event are Funk Attack, Hip-Hop International and Eu-Rap, providing everything from breakdancing to rap wars.
September ’08 sees the return of Rome’s White Night (or Notte Bianca), following on from last years success. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept, White Night is a cultural event organised by the state and happens in many European cities such as Barcelona, Paris and Brussels. Museums, galleries, exhibitions, shops, restaurants and bars stay open all night long and host musical and cultural events free of charge. The event is quite alien to those of us coming from Britain as the concept of staying out until 8am visiting museums and art galleries is unconceivable. However, as the saying goes, ‘When in Rome…..’; you really must take part in this extraordinary event as it is sure to be something you have never experienced before. Don’t forget to book your accommodation in Rome as after finding out all this wonderful city has to offer, there won’t be a room left empty.
