Wedding Emcee: Party Games

The question of who is going to receive the centerpiece is often a a talking point at the wedding celebraions dining tables, especially if the centerpiece is especially elegant or unique.

Making a game of who is going to get the centerpiece, is usually a fun play and one many reception guests will relish participating in. Here are some suggestions for giving away that wedding reception table centerpiece.

One of the most liked ways the happy couple give away the table centerpieces is to put a number under the centerpiece and allocate every guest a number. During the evening, a number is called, each guest checks their number and whoever has the called number gets the centerpiece. Of course, there are lots of ways to put a spin on this long established party activity.

Another amusing activity for divvying up the table centrepieces is to ask the guests to produce a particular item. The wedding master of ceremonies goes from table to table, announcing what the guests at that table will be required to produce in order to get the centerpiece. Perhaps it is a a mint or a Georgia quarter, or a dentist’s appointment card. Whatever it may be, the guest at each table who manages to produce the called for item will be awarded the centerpiece.

Of course, you can keep it very simple and award the the table, or the person who took the most number of years to finish college. Maybe you could create an activity where the guest who has the strangest talent (as voted on by tablemates) is awarded the centerpiece. And it is even better if that guest shows off the talent for the entire reception party.

If you enjoy musical chairs, you can play a game of musical dollar bills in order to give the centerpiece away. A person at each table takes out a one-dollar bill and music starts playing. The dollar bill is passed around the table and when the music stops, the person left holding the note gets the centerpiece. Or this activitu can be played more traditionally with the guest holding the note being eliminated, and the game continuing until only one guest is left holding the note. That one guest gets the centerpiece

Some fun, and fairly traditional suggestions include the birthday guests be awarded the centerpiece. At each table, the guest whose birthday nearest to the wedding gets the centerpiece. Or if there are married couples at the table, the couple who have been together the longest receive the centerpiece, or the couple who married the most recently. Perhaps the centerpiece could be awarded to the guest with the longest hair, or the strangest shoes (again, this would be voted on by guests at the same table).

Party games are a good way for the wedding MC to help wedding guests mix with each other.
